Professor Gail S. Goodman holds an distinguished chair in psychology within the University of California Davis and is Director of the Center for Public Policy Research. It is believed that she was the one responsible with establishing the current study of the memory of witnesses and also children's witnesses. Professor Goodman is an prolific writer and has been awarded many awards and grants. She has advised numerous government agencies and governments around all over the world on policy and research relating to child victims by the legal system. She is currently a advisor to the Special Assault Forensic Evaluation Center at Sacramento County Child Protective Services (formerly Multidisciplinary Interview Center). She is also a fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and American Psychological Association, (Divisions Experimental Psychology and Developmental Psychology Society for Children and Families Practice and Policy American Psychology Law Society Psychology of Women and Traumatic Stress 56). She is the founder of the American Professional Society for the Abuse of Children, the Psychonomics Society Society for Research into Child Development, and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. She was president of 3 divisions (Division Society for Child and Family Policy as well as Practice Division of the American Psychological Law Society and Division Developmental Psychology) and one section (Child Maltreatment) of the American Psychological Association.
